Favorite Ingredients of Wellness

I’ve long wanted to add a new monthly feature post and at last here it is.  I’m calling this ‘Favorite Ingredients of Wellness’  and it will feature some of the wonderful wellness things I’ve experienced in the past month.

I hope you enjoy this offering.

I hope you find the desire to try some of them.

I hope you tell me what you think.

MindBody Wellness favorite

There is so much I love and do around this ingredient but without a doubt the most wonderful mindbody work I was involved in recently was undertaking the “Mindfulness Matters” training course for kids, by The Academy of Mindful Teaching.  Mindfulness is increasingly a topic of interest in schools because the skills mindfulness teaches can help children manage the increasing pressures and stressors they experience from school, social interactions, expected academic performance and over stimulation.  Mindfulness teaches them to connect to themselves, to slow down and simply to breathe.

I am looking forward to starting my 8 week pilot Mindfulness Matters group with a few 8-12 year olds, in September.  If you’d like to know more, Eline’s book Sitting Still Like a Frog, delves into some of the program and is a great tool for parents and kids to use at home.

Physical Wellness favorite

Massage: Probably the nicest body work I have had for some time is with masseuse, Jaryn from MOW Spa right here in Discovery Bay where I live.  Jaryn’s expertise shines through in her magical hands and fingers as she knows exactly how to relieve the stress, pain and tension. I give 10 out of 10 for Jaryn’s treatments.

Environmental Wellness favorite

I was back in Perth recently and we grabbed a bit to eat at the Greenhouse,  a funky restaurant in the heart of St Georges Terrace.  When I lived there 22 years ago, this part of the city was a ghost town on the weekends, so it’s nice to see the vibrant change.

I loved everything about this restaurant, it’s green (plant) exterior walls, everything in the restaurant is made from recycled materials and they give away free compost.  Oh and the food was pretty awesome too.  Here is some more on the designer and chef Joost and his ideas.

Nutritional Wellness favorite

The inspiration for this series comes from the beautiful and delicious work of Heidi Swanson at 101 Cookbooks.  And it is her Spiced Spinach with Walnuts recipe that was the most delicious meal I made in the past couple of weeks.  I added grilled fish for a protein kick.

Movie favorite

Calvary – You’ll never be disappointed in a movie staring Brendan Gleeson or Chris O’Dowd.  This movie address head on the issue of child abuse by the Catholic church, in true black comedy style.  More a who’s gonna do it, than who done it….

Loved this quote by Chris O’Dowd’s character:

I think she’s bipolar, or lactose intolerant, one of the two
