A reminder that practice does not have to be formal. You can use many of these small mindful practices regularly or when you need them.

Daily mindfulness opportunities

  • Begin the day with sitting, a walking practice or a body scan (guided or unguided).
  • While waiting for a taxi, train, or bus take 1 minute to pay attention to your breath, hands, or feet.
  • Pause, relax, breath and practice the 3-step breathing space between tasks, projects, or jobs, before beginning or before entering a meeting, or before a difficult phone call, email, or conversation.
  • As you turn your computer on and off to start or end your day, pay attention to your body's sensations.
  • Use a cue at your desk as a reminder to take a regular pause, breathe, observe, and then act.
  • Pause, relax, or release any tension you are aware off as best you can. Accept what is present with kindness and care.
  • Experiment with being with your breathing or body sensations instead of looking at your phone when you are in the lift.
  • At least once a week, change your environment and observe how this makes you feel for the rest of the day.

Self-practice

“As many times as I forget and catch myself charging forward…that many times I can make a choice to stop, to breathe and be, and walk slowly into the mystery.”

 - Danna Faulds, Walk Slowly
